Academics

North Cobb Christian School is divided into a lower school encompassing K3 through 5th grades, a middle school for students in 6th through 8th grade, and an upper school for 9th through 12th graders.

The most recent test scores in graphed form are attached below.

Lower School

The Lower School of NCCS is noted for providing excellence in its skill-based academic programs. An overview of curriculum content topics and skills is provided by grade level.

Reading and writing are critical components of the Lower School program. A Literacy Coordinator works closely with classroom teachers to ensure continuity in the development of student skills. Lower school students are encouraged to continue reading during the summer months. Recommendations for summer reading are located under Academics/Summer Information. During the school year students receive reading incentives through programs such as Accelerated Reader, Book-It, and Six Flags Six Hour Reading Club.Kindergarten Grad

In addition to the core curriculum, NCCS provides the following "specials" in the Lower School:

  • Spanish (Grades K4-5th)
  • General Music (K3-5th)
  • Physical Education (Grades K5-5th)
  • Art (Grades 1st -5th)
  • Computer (Grades 1st-5th)
  • Band and Orchestra (Grades 4th-5th, electives)

Middle School

Each student in the middle school is viewed as a special and unique individual who has yet to determine his/her true path in life. Keeping this in mind we have developed a program that is varied and comprehensive with the idea that as each student enters his/her high school years he/she will choose a pathway of learning that will match their God-given bent. Luke 2:52 states, "Jesus grew in wisdom and stature and in favor with God and man". The premise behind NCCS' Middle school experience is that as Christ grew we also should grow. The curriculum has been designed over the years by teams of qualified educators to provide biblically integrated, college preparatory level courses that meet or exceed state standards.

Along this line we have provided opportunities for our students to grow substantially in the mental, physical, social, and spiritual realms.

Upper School

Upper School is comprised of 9th -12th grades. We partner with the parents in helping students discover the unique purpose God has for them. Therefore we have designed our program around the three essential A's... academics, athletics and the arts.Upper School Award

We provide a biblically based college preparatory curriculum that affords students the opportunity to excel in the academics. Honors and AP classes are available as well.

Our athletic teams provide students with a wide range of opportunities to exercise the talents God has given them. Through our sports teams men and women alike are given the opportunity to learn teamwork, dedication and sportsmanship.

Our fine arts program develops young artists in a variety of fields including drama, visual, instrumental and vocal arts. Students desiring a career in the arts are invited to audition for our Academy of the Arts program.

In addition to the Academy of the Arts, upper school students showing interest and promise can choose to enroll in The Academy of Business, The Academy of Math, Science, and Technology or The Academy of Counseling, Ministry, and Education.

Test Scores
Our most recent Stanford Achievement Test scores are reflected in the graphs attached below. There are two sets of scores attached for each grade level.

One graph shows Grade Level Equivalent Scores.  For example:  the 5th grade median Grade Equivalent score was 8.8.  This means that a student in 8th grade, 8th month would score about the same as our 5th grade students did on the test.  Please note that the designation "PHS" indicates Post High School grade level.

The second graph indicates National Percentiles on the Basic Battery for each grade level.  Basic Battery scores include Reading and Math, but are highly representative of the entire test.  For example:  the 6th grade scored at the 81st percentile.  This means that the average of all 6th grade reading plus math scores was better that 81 percent of students nationally who took the test.

Both sets of scores indicate that NCCS students, on the average, score well above other students nationally.  Many NCCS students score significantly above the average scores.
