Middle School Guidance
My name is Lynn Beverly and I serve as the Lower and Middle School Counselor. My husband, Bo, and our three children have been part of the NCCS family since 2008. This year will be unique because my 3 kids will span all three schools as my oldest daughter Lexi begins Upper School, my middle daughter Shaye enters Middle School, and my son Luke starts his last year of Lower School! We will be busy indeed!
As the Middle School Counselor, my primary responsibilities are to support the students spiritually, academically, socially and emotionally. First and foremost, I pray for the students and for your family. Without prayer and seeking the Lord, we are without help and hope. All the things that your child and your family may go through have a purpose that the Lord has set in their lives and part of my job is reminding them of that and encouraging them to seek Him first. The goal of our school in every endeavor is to honor the Lord and disciple His children.
Another thing I do as the counselor is support the students in their academics. I survey the grades of all middle school students regularly so that I can come alongside students who need a little extra support. We work on everything from organizing lockers to getting motivated, and basically anything else that may be impeding your child’s ability to excel.
The social element of middle school is vital for your child. If they are concerned about anything at all, it is probably what their peers think of them and making sure they “fit in”. Galatians 1:10 is a commonly quoted verse in my office, “Am I now trying to win the approval of men, or of God? Or am I trying to please men? If I were still trying to please men, I would not be a servant of Christ.” We work through some of the common middle school social issues, not by smoothing everything out and making everything perfect (though I would if I could!!), but by reminding them of God’s purposes and His call on their lives.
Emotions can be very erratic during the middle school years. Do not be alarmed!! This is normal for adolescents, but nevertheless troubling for us as parents. I work with students whose hearts are hurting. Sad and tragic things unfortunately do happen, and my office is a safe place where students can share their hearts.
Those are the main areas in which you will find me at work in the middle school. Please know I am always available to you as any needs arise. It is a great blessing in my life to work with you and your children, and I thank you for giving me the opportunity.
In Christ,
