College Planning
The mission of North Cobb Christian School is to provide a biblically based, academically excellent education in a nurturing environment so that our students can impact their world for Christ. As part of that mission, the Guidance Department partners with parents, students, teachers and coaches to prepare students for what lies beyond the high school years. Our aim is to provide parents and students information on college resources and to help students stay organized in the college planning process.
In the college planning process, all Upper School students develop an individual Family Connection account by Naviance®. Family Connection offers an innovative, easy-to-use, web-based college planning service for high school students and their parents. Family Connection will help guide students' college and career choices, as well as provide them with opportunities for self-exploration.
Using the programs in Family Connection, students are able to link to useful websites, surveys, and many relevant career and college topics. Family Connection also serves as the main access point for students to receive news updates, college representative visiting schedules, scholarship postings, enrichment opportunities and other important communication from the school college counseling office. Students are encouraged to visit often for the latest updates. Features of the program are available in the Family Connection Introductory Letter. Families can use their Family Connection accounts anywhere they have internet access. Quick links to Family Connection by Naviance may be found on the Students, Parents and College Planning pages on our website.
For seniors, the Family Connection account will also be used to manage, request and send documents requested by college application offices. Seniors may log on to their Family Connection account and then locate the Senior College Application Checklist in the 'Resources' folder of the "document library." This folder guides students through the process. For an overview, click on the NCCS College Application Process link .
The NCCS Counseling Office submits all application documents (transcripts, counselor and teacher recommendations, school profile and secondary school reports) electronically through Naviance eDocs to colleges and universities. In addition, faculty members are also able to submit letters of recommendation electronically through the Naviance program. This allows NCCS to send materials directly to those colleges that accept the electronic format and eliminates delays that are possible through regular mail. In cases where the college is not utilizing the electronic process, NCCS will continue to send out the materials through the postal system. Using Naviance eDocs is a tremendous step in helping our families navigate through the college admission process. If you have any questions, please contact Karen Bollinger, Upper School College Counselor.
Prov. 3: 5-6 says "Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will direct your path."
We pray that through the college planning process, students will discover God's unique path for their lives and enjoy the journey!
