Theatrical Arts
The Theatre Arts program desires to see students develop confidence, poise, and presence through both scripted and improvised activities and rehearsals. Beginning in 5th grade our students are exposed to "being on stage" in some form or fashion. The Theatre program begins by teaching basic speech and movement skills in and progressing into more complicated and difficult stagecraft as the students enter Upper School.
There are two shows put on each year by the Theatre Arts department - an Upper School One-Act Play in the fall and a Musical in the spring that is often open to students from all three schools. Middle School Theatre students perform several in-class pieces each year, as do Upper School and Academy Acting Students.
The Academy of the Arts offers a track in the Theatre Arts in Upper School. This track is for students who are keenly focusing on acting and want to make it a part of their lives after leaving high school and even college. For more on this academy, please click on the Academy of the Arts link.
