National Honor Society
National Honor Society and National Junior Honor Society are more than just honor roll. The North Cobb Christian School chapter establishes rules for membership that are based upon a student's outstanding performance in the areas of scholarship, service, leadership, and character. These criteria for selection form the foundation upon which the organization and its activities are built.
Becoming a Member of National Honor Society
Any student in grades 10 through 12 at NCCS is eligible for consideration for membership in NHS if they meet the scholarship, service, and character standards. Students are considered after the completion of their freshman year at NCCS. If a student is invited to apply, they should pick up an application in Mrs. Williams' room (511). The completed application provides the Faculty Council with information regarding the candidates' qualifications.
Becoming a Member of National Junior Honor Society
Any student in grades 7 through 8 at NCCS is eligible for consideration for membership in NJHS if they meet the scholarship, service, and character standards. Students are considered after the completion of their sixth grade year at NCCS. If a student is invited to apply, they should pick up an application in Mrs. Coleman's room (S155). The completed application provides the Faculty Council with information regarding the candidates' qualifications.
Qualifications for Membership of NHS and NJHS
Scholarship: The scholarship requirement for membership is a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 for NHS and 3.3 for NJHS. Additionally, students may have no more than 5 unexcused tardies, 5 unexcused absences, or 49 excused absences or any excess violations of the student handbook. These students are then eligible for consideration on the basis of service, leadership, and character as defined below.
Service: This quality is defined through the voluntary contributions made by a student to NCCS and our community, done without compensation and with a positive, courteous, and enthusiastic spirit.
Leadership: Student leaders are those who are resourceful, good problem solvers, promoters of school activities, idea-contributors, dependable, and persons who exemplify positive attitudes about life. Leadership experiences can be drawn from NCCS or community activities while working with or for others.
Character: The student of good Christian character upholds Biblical principles of morality and ethics, is cooperative, demonstrates high standards of honesty and reliability, shows courtesy, concern, and respect for others, and generally maintains a good and clean lifestyle.
After candidates are selected, a formal induction ceremony is held to recognize all the newly selected members. Once inducted, new members are required to maintain at least the same level of performance in all four criteria (noted above) that led to their selection. This obligation includes regular attendance to chapter meetings and devotions and participation in chapter service projects, chapter activities, and individual service projects.
