8th Grade Shadow Day
Eighth Grade Shadow Day is a great opportunity for the entire 8th grade class to shadow in all areas of the Upper School and get a taste of the classes, students, and teachers that they will get to experience in their upcoming four years in the NCCS Upper School. The 8th grade students who shadowed in Mr. Bitner’s Computer Programming II class were treated not only to a glimpse into high school, but they also got to look beyond that as they heard former NCCS student (and current NCCS Technology Staff Member) Nick Kammerdiener talk about his past technology studies at NCCS and his current KSU college studies.
Nick was able to relate his high school efforts to his current college work, as well as his technology job. He also shared some of his current projects with the class. After that, the Computer Programming II students teamed up with 8th graders and helped to teach their younger counterparts about a programming project using JAVA coding in the Greenfoot environment.

Opportunity for Juniors and Seniors
Juniors and seniors who are passionate about the outdoors and interested in advancing their knowledge and skills in the study of the environment may apply for Sewanee's Pre-College Field Studies Experience this summer. Led by full-time faculty at the University of the South and utilizing its 13,000-acre campus atop the ecologically diverse Cumberland Plateau, the program provides an interdisciplinary introduction to environmental studies. This two-week experience explores the diverse ecosystems of the Cumberland Plateau: its forests, coves, streams, lakes, wetlands, and caves. Students participate in ecological exploration with senior faculty examining the plant and animal species that inhabit these ecosystems and use archeological techniques, along with GIS and GPS technology, to study how people have used and changed these ecosystems over time. Students learn how conservation strategies are currently being employed to protect the integrity of Plateau ecosystems into the future. Dates: June 26 - July 9, 2016 For more information, click here.
