We are proud to announce that ten seniors have been named as 2016 Marietta Daily Journal Scholar Athletes. In order to qualify for this honor, athletes must be graduating seniors, have a GPA of 3.5 or better as of the first semester of the 2015-2016 school year, and must have competed in two or more GHSA-sanctioned varsity sports during their senior year. These student-athletes will be featured in the Sunday, May 28th edition of the Marietta Daily Journal. Congratulations to the following NCCS seniors for achieving this honor:
We are so grateful to Holly Pointer for faithfully serving in our carline on Friday mornings for the past eight years! This is just one of the many ways Holly has served our school, including serving as PTF President for four years. Thank you, Holly, for cheerfully serving and greeting everyone in carline every Friday morning! We appreciate your dedication and your help as you braved the cold, wind, and rain to give our carline staff a break and to ensure safety for all of us. Holly’s youngest child, Tate, is graduating on Friday night, so this Friday will be the last carline for her to work. Please join us in thanking Holly for her kindness and for her servant’s heart! R.I.S.E. Takes Forensics to the Real World!
All of our 2nd-4th grade R.I.S.E. students spent the past quarter learning about the fascinating world of forensics. A few of the topics that students explored were handwriting analysis, identifying unknown substances, soil location analysis, ink chromatography, and analyzing spatter to determine height and angle. They took their new-found knowledge of forensics out into the real world as they visited the Acworth Police Department this past week. A local Federal Agent and Acworth Police Officer gave students a presentation that focused on how important forensics is in their line of work. Students took a tour of the facility that included seeing how fingerprinting takes place in their lab. They also learned about how evidence is collected and stored. Perhaps the students’ favorite part of the tour, however, was seeing the jail! R.I.S.E. students had a great day of learning about the interesting world of forensics.
