Weekly Highlights

As you may know, January is Kindness Month here at NCCS. We always make an extra effort to observe Kindness Month through programs and challenges to help our students grow in kindness in their own lives. Galatians 5:22-23 reminds us that kindness is a fruit of the Spirit, which means that kindness is evidence that we are walking with Christ!

We have the opportunity to show kindness through a special food drive benefiting the Feed the Heart program at the Sibley Heart Center of Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta. Feed the Heart provides meals, snacks and drinks for heart patients and their families during hospital stays, so that families don't have to worry about food and can focus on caring for their children.

Next week (January 24-28), we will unite as a school community to collect food and drink items to send to CHOA to help stock their Feed the Heart program. They request a specific list of items, so below you’ll find the items that our division is responsible for bringing. Please only bring these items.

Lower School (drop off outside Mr. McDonald’s office OR outside the MFP room across from Mrs. Nelson’s 1st grade classroom.)

  • Individual boxes of cereal

  • Snack-size candy bars

  • Breakfast bars and granola bars

  • Individual packages of peanut butter or cheese crackers

  • Single-serving packets of instant oatmeal or grits

Third grade students are currently reading Yang the Youngest and His Terrible Ear as we explore the comprehension skill of CAUSE and EFFECT.  The  book is about Yingtao, the youngest child of the Yangs, a family of musicians, who recently emigrated from China to Seattle. Yingtao does not have an ear for music, but instead is more interested in baseball. He is having a rough time fitting in with his family, in addition to being in a new country and a new school. He meets a friend, Matthew, and the two discover that they have similar views about things, but their families are a lot different.  Third grade students are learning more about Chinese culture while gaining a greater appreciation for the similarities and differences that we all share.

As an extension of our learning, on Wednesday, January 26th, third grade students will visit Mrs. Baddock's Orchestra class. During our visit, students will learn more about the instruments in an orchestra and the role that each instrument and person have in creating the beautiful music that will be played during the demonstration. They will also get a glimpse at the future Orchestra opportunities at NCCS.

COMING UP!!! 2.2.22 - Two’s Day!

On 2.2.22, we will have DOUBLE the fun as we spotlight the # 2 in Lower School!  We have the opportunity to celebrate a once in a lifetime numerical palindrome on Wednesday, 2.2.22. All students are encouraged to come to school wearing Two…. 2 hats, 2 ties, 2 shirts, 2 bows, 2 socks, etc. We will make connections of 2’s all day long!

UNIFORMS -  Our Lower School kids are uniquely made and known and we enjoy seeing them shine in their own way each and every school day.  However, we have a set uniform standard which can be found HERE that outlines specific details to help us keep in uniform. Some areas to review include jeans, outerwear, and leggings.
