Student + Parent Resources for NCCS Middle School
First Flight: Middle School Preview
Middle school is a major milestone in a student’s life—a time of growth, independence, and new challenges. Being prepared makes the transition smoother, and First Flight, our summer orientation camp (formerly called Middle School Academy), is designed to give students a head start on success!
Held near the end of July, this camp helps students get ready for the adventure ahead.
Participants will:
- Build essential organization skills
- Get hands-on with Google Classroom training
- Learn study tips and locker setup
- Take a campus tour and explore NCCS culture
- Walk their schedules to feel confident on day one
And it’s not all work—students also enjoy fun social activities like games, rock climbing, laser tag, pizza, and more, creating a balanced blend of learning and laughter. Don't miss this fan-favorite NCCS experience!
Sign-ups open in February preceding each summer as part of NCCS Summer Camps. Find out more at ncchristian.org/camp; First Flight will appear as a registration option here once spots are open.

HELPFUL LINKS
Preparation doesn’t end with camp! Here are some excellent books and resources to help families support students during these important years:
Middle School: The Inside Story | A guide for parents and educators offering insight into developmental stages, social dynamics, and academic challenges unique to middle school, with strategies for effective support.
The Gift of Failure: How the Best Parents Learn to Let Go So Their Children Can Succeed | This book highlights the importance of allowing children to experience failure, showing how over-parenting can limit resilience, problem-solving, and independence.
Take the Tech Exit | Focused on Christian and family values, this resource encourages families to reduce or regulate technology use, fostering deeper real-life connections, faith, and healthier habits.
Wait Until 8th | A pledge and movement urging parents to delay giving children a smartphone until at least 8th grade, helping protect childhood and minimize the negative impacts of early device use.
With the right preparation and support, students can step confidently into middle school, ready to thrive academically, socially, and spiritually.
