Standardized test scores combined with grades and activities are the most essential factors in college admissions. Below is a brief overview of the standardized tests used to evaluate a student’s knowledge base and subject area proficiency.
PSAT / NMSQT
The PSAT/NMSQT is the pre-SAT test given to students in the 10th and 11th grades to help prepare them for the SAT college entrance exam. This test covers the three areas of critical reading, math, and writing. The test scores are used to help the student better determine their college readiness. Juniors who score in the top percentages nationwide may qualify for the National Merit Scholarship. The PSAT is administered in October.

This October 2015, students will take the re-designed PSAT which aligns with the new SAT.

SAT & ACT Test Information and Registration
NCCS recommends that our students begin taking the SAT/ACT starting in January of their Junior year of high school. We suggest testing at least twice to ensure that you have achieved a score that meets your colleges’ admission criteria and makes you a strong candidate for academic scholarships. Please note that many selective colleges require two or three subject area tests to be taken. Please check with your preferred college choices so you can plan accordingly.
In order to take either the SAT or ACT, you must complete a registration process on the appropriate website. Please follow the specified link to obtain more information about registration requirements.
