Our Engineering students won first place for Innovation in Service at the International ACSI STEM Competition in Arizona for the design and construction of a greenhouse for our Lower School STEAM Courtyard. Upper School Engineering students designed, built, and installed a greenhouse to enable year-round study and productivity in the STEAM garden.
Throughout the process, they consulted with Mrs. Bare’s fourth-grade class, the custodians of the garden this year, to receive feedback, which influenced iterations of the design.
The final structure includes shelves for planting and housing seedlings, a sustainable self-watering feature, condensation control, and more. They then unveiled the design to Mrs. Bare's class, who spent a morning planting together in the courtyard.
The creativity, design, collaboration, and impact of this project earned our team the prestigious first-place prize at the International STEM Competition, where they competed against schools from around the world. We are proud of these exemplary students for using their intellect for the good of others!
