Day 3 – Still going strong!

We kicked off the day with a visit to the Dwight D. Eisenhower Memorial. While we were there, streets suddenly started shutting down, and before we knew it, police filled the area, sweeping through our bus and checking our group. Then came the surprise: The President of the United States was driving right down our street on the way to the Supreme Court! Many students captured amazing photos and videos—such a memorable, once in a lifetime moment.

Next, we headed to the Library of Congress, where we took in the stunning architecture, saw the famous Gutenberg Bible, and even had a few students convinced they’d found the “Book of Secrets” (if you know, you know!).

From there, we made our way to the United States Capitol for lunch and a tour. Along the way, we quickly learned, through experience, why it’s called “Capitol Hill”!

Our afternoon brought us to the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum. We asked students to leave their phones behind on the bus so they could be fully present. While it was a heavy and reflective experience, it was also incredibly meaningful. Having just studied this topic in Mr. Reeve’s class, the students connected deeply and gained powerful new perspectives.

Dinner was at Fireworks Pizza, and you really can’t go wrong with a pizza buffet! As a bonus, we were able to watch the launch of Artemis I, a spacecraft headed to the moon—such an exciting moment to share together.

To wrap up the day, we hurried to fit in one more stop before an incoming storm and made it to the Franklin D. Roosevelt Memorial. Partway through, lightning rolled in, so we headed back to the hotel a bit early for our evening devotion with Mr. Fraser.

With an early wake up call and checkout ahead, we’re gearing up for our final day. We’ve had an incredible time in our nation’s capital, and while the kids are a bit tired, they’ve definitely got just enough energy for one more day of adventures!
