Local Missions Cartersville // Spring Term 2026

Day One

by Jackson Holbert, sophomore

Today we started our day at Heritage Baptist Church, where Pastor Alex taught us about the liturgical calendar and how the different seasons connect to events in the Bible. It was really interesting to learn how each season has its own purpose and meaning within the church year.

After that, Rusty talked to us about the Good Neighbor Homeless Shelter and the work they do to support people experiencing homelessness. He shared real examples of how the organization helps the community, which helped us better understand the importance of serving others in practical ways.

We also spent time doing fun team-building activities that helped us work together and get to know each other better. To end the day, we went to Lakepoint Station and played three different games, which was a fun and relaxing way to wrap everything up.

Day Two

by Hudson Andrews, sophomore

Today we went to Advocates for Children and helped organize, sort, and clean their facility. We started by sorting clothes from large bins and separating them by age and size. After folding everything, we placed the clothes back into bins so they would be easy for families to find. On the hygiene side, we unpacked donations, checked expiration dates, and organized items into sections like body wash, shampoo, diapers, wipes, and cleaning supplies. Some of us also worked on sorting and folding toddler clothes to help create a more welcoming experience for parents and kids.

Throughout the day, we could see God working through our service and teamwork. As we sorted and organized, we realized that God was using our hands to help meet the needs of others. He was present in the way everyone worked together and in the care we put into preparing these items for families who need them.

Day Three

by Jenny Baek, freshman

Today we went to Live2540 in Cartersville! While we were there, we learned all about Liberia, a country in West Africa, and some of the challenges kids face there, like malnutrition and poor health. It was really eye-opening to see how our donations can make a difference—providing medical care and PlumpyNut, a nutritious peanut butter paste that helps children who are suffering from malnutrition.

After the learning part, we got to visit the Live2540 shop and pick out a few souvenirs. It felt really cool knowing that every dollar we spent goes right back to supporting the work in Liberia. Then we had some free time to walk around downtown Cartersville and grab a few snacks.

Back at school, we ate lunch and later spent the afternoon making fleece blankets and encouragement jars for our visit to the assisted living facility tomorrow. It was amazing to see God at work, using simple things—like donations, our time, and small acts of kindness—to make a real difference in people’s lives, both here at home and across the world.

Day Four

by Aspen Lee, Sophomore

Today, we had the chance to serve our local community and nearby schools through Backpack Buddies. We filled over a thousand bags of food that will be sent home with families and children in need. It was really meaningful to see how something so simple can help ease hunger and provide real support.

After lunch, we got creative by helping decorate a seasonal bulletin board at Heritage Baptist Church. From there, we visited Manor Lake assisted living home, where we spent time socializing with the residents and getting to know them personally. Listening to their stories and sharing moments together showed us how God works through relationships and small acts of kindness.

Before we left, we joined in on Elvis karaoke, which brought a lot of laughter and joy! We also handed out the blankets and encouragement jars we made yesterday. Seeing the residents’ smiles and gratitude made the entire experience incredibly rewarding and reminded us how powerful simple acts of love and service can be.

Day Five

by Allison Gallimore, Upper School Staff

Today we learned about Bartow Family Resources and the incredible families they serve in the North Metro area. This organization supports pregnant mothers by offering free healthcare, educational classes during pregnancy, and essential supplies after their babies are born. Mothers earn points by attending classes, which they can redeem for diapers, formula, baby clothes, and other necessities. Through this care and support, Bartow Family Resources empowers mothers to choose life for their babies.

Our group helped sort baby clothing and assisted with cleaning both inside and outside the facility.

After lunch, we spent time with our prayer partner class, sharing everything we had done this week and giving each of them a gift. We truly cherish these moments and are so thankful for their prayers and encouragement throughout the week!
